Meditating together strengthens the bond between two individuals. Here are some meditative practices that couples can do at home or in serene locations when they travel.
Synchronized Breathing: Sit back-to-back and try to synchronize your breathing. This promotes a sense of unity and connection without the need for words. Connecting easily may take some time; this is part of the practice.
Guided Meditation: One partner can guide the other through meditation, using a soft and calming voice. Swap roles for the next session. We have fun using Oracle cards for this. You intuitively select a card from the deck. You will find the accompanying meditation by looking up the card in the guidebook. Or, if you don't want to carry a box of oracle cards, you can find a small pocketbook of guided meditations.
Gazing Meditation: Sit facing each other, looking deeply into each other's eyes without speaking. This can be an intense, connecting experience that communicates more than words ever could.
Walking Meditation: Choose a quiet path and walk slowly and mindfully together. Focus on the sensation of your feet touching the ground and the sounds of nature around you. If it is safe, it feels so good to take your socks and shoes off and walk barefoot.
Mantra Chanting: Chant a mantra or a positive affirmation together. The vibration of the voice can be deeply grounding, and doing it in unison amplifies the experience. Our favorite is "Sa-Ta-Na-Ma". Feel the sounds resonating through the top of your head and your forehead. Each syllable in this mantra represents a different stage of the life cycle:
Sa - Infinity, cosmos, beginning
Ta - Life, Existence
Na - Death, change, transformation
Ma - Rebirth, regeneration
Together, this mantra represents the continuous cycle of life and creation. It's often used in meditations to increase awareness and mindfulness.
Touch Meditation: With consent, gently touch or caress your partner's hand or face, focusing entirely on the sensation. This practice can promote a deep sense of connection and intimacy.
Sound Meditation: Meditate by using a singing bowl, bell, or even calming music. Focus on the sound waves and let them resonate through both of you.
Nature Meditation: Sit in a serene location and soak in the environment. Listen to the birds, feel the breeze, and absorb the natural beauty around you with your eyes open.
Gratitude Practice: Share three things you're grateful for about each other or your shared life.
Remember, the key is to be present and connected. You can't do any of these meditations wrong. The serene environment during your couple's retreat will further amplify the experience. Meditation will deepen your bond and offer new insights into each other's inner worlds.
Share your favorite types of meditations or experiences with couple's meditation. Whether it's a technique that's brought you closer together, a unique mantra that resonates with you, or a serene location perfect for meditation, your insights can inspire and benefit others.
I have too many favorites! The ones I love doing with my partner are Yoga Nidra, Nature Meditation & Touch Meditation. ❤️
